White Face

Damn BWG beat me to it with his article on the White Face Creams which are frequently used by Chinese women. My Girlfriend uses the cream daily, opting for the expensive Nu Skin version. It seems to work, but don’t see the attraction myself. If she wants skin like me, then fine. But I’ve grown up with the notion that tanned is better than being pasty faced any day.

Not sure if this is related but most Chinese people think Shanghai girls are the most beautiful because of their pale skin.

Why is it rasist for a white person to tell a non white person that their skin is the wrong color, but not when a non white person to says it.

If I told my girlfriend that she should be white, I’m pretty certain that their would be a kick to the groin arriving swiftly.

Not sure if it’s racist, perhaps just a personal preference.

As a “whitey” I can’t understand why someone would want white skin colour for the following reasons:

    - Easily can burn in the sun
    - Noticeable when embarassed
    - Can see the blue veins in arms and legs

Of course I’m taking this light hearted and understand that there is a form of racism attached to people with darker skin

I happen to think one looks a bit healthier with a bit of colour on their skin and I am Asian.

We did research on this in my last company. The primary driver now is health reasons…white skin now looks healthier and younger. Hence the UV crap they put into some of them.

Initially, I think it was also a class thing. Fairer skin people don’t do manual labour. Manual labourers work out in the sun. Something like that at least.

I personally think you should be proud of your skin colour. I had a problem with some of these advertisements, especially in SE Asia, where the beauty ideal sold was one of fair skin, Eurasian or European features. It was potentially damaging to young women who could never hope, even with whitening products galor, to achieve the “ideal” that was presented to them.

I’ve no problem being white, but doesn’t have many benefits…
