Tiananmen Remembered
Down in Victoria Park, it’s estimated 40,000+ people showed up to mark the 17th anniversary of the killings in Tiananmen Square last year.I didn’t manage to show up this year, but went last year to see what was going on. I remembered it was quite peaceful and as most people were carrying lighted candles, it looked beautiful to watch.
I was interested to read that in the weeks after news filtered through of the event in 1989, one million people took to the streets of Hong Kong in protest - the largest civil demonstration ever seen in the city with roughly one in six of the population joining the protest!
