You are, of course, free to run these awards if that is what you choose to do. No-one can stop you. Equally, everyone else has the choice of whether to participate and publicise your venture.

Why haven’t I removed it then?

To be honest, why should I? Phil doesn’t agree with the way I’ve gone about it (although I as I keep on saying, the impression I got was that it was ok to go ahead with!) but he doesn’t really have any probs with it (read his posts).

So brings me onto my next questions – why has everyone else jumped on the bandwagon and had a go?!

Oh come on Phil, this has been going on all day. I actually built the system ages ago if you must know, you can see the other polls on the Forum site (they are dated). If you said “no”, then I wouldn’t of done it.

Seems I’m like on trial or something. I made a mistake and don’t deserve this sort of questioning or the abuse I’m getting over at Gweilio Diaries which came about from your post. Jez I’ve been a HK Blogger for ages and know how the system works over here – but tried something different and got slated. Seems most people who critised it haven’t even used it and got a few emails from people saying it’s pretty useful and found some good sites etc.,

I would like to continue promoting the work I’ve done on the Awards site.

Here is another thought for you. You had built this entirely BEFORE you ever contacted me. What would you have done if I had said no? If you wanted to be involved you should have emailed me before you wrote any code. The fact that you wrote the code then contacted me sinks any position of acceptability you might otherwise have had.

That is not the point. I did not realise you were going live with this. I had only looked at the front page when I responded and thought you were offering suggestions. It came as a complete shock when you said you had gone live. Perhaps this is my fault partly because I have been so busy.

My response to your email asking permission was:

“Actually they are going to sit on their own URL but there are many things

I am going to start the awards process in June. I have a few ideas but I
have been really really busy at the current time with Upstart.
”

If you read that you can see quite clearly I had specific plans and the word yes is not there at all.

Andy, Perhaps my reply was a bit soft. I let Phil know beforehand (after getting impression he was too busy to do it) and got the thumbs up, then see an open email for people to comment (with abuse of course!) not mentioning that he changed his mind to about the launch.

Also he’s had 5 months to design one, strange he wants to start one now?!

Anyway, I’m interested in seeing this one develop.

I too have problems posting comments at Phil’s site.

Same thing… 500 Internal Server error. I don’t think I used any abusive or ill-advised words.

However, I did notice that someone else was able to post a comment there.

About the awards, Giles, even during last Asia Weblog Awards, I specifically stopped my readers from voting for me http://www.seelai.com/blog/2003/12/asia_weblog_awa.html

Mainly because at that time I was comparatively new and also building up the image of See Lai. I still haven’t finished re-designing the way I would like it and believe it is too early for me to go for awards. At the moment, I am satisfied by this – http://www.alexa.com/data/details/traffic_details?&range=6m&size=medium&url=http://www.seelai.com/#top and would rather improve on that score.

Therefore, I kindly request that you please drop See Lai from your Asia Weblog Awards.

I will support and promote your awards at my blog when time permits. BTW, what is the closing date of your awards?

I have had problems with the comments -are you getting a message saying your blocked? There is an auto banning system but only if you use certain very specific words.
