When travelling around China I usually fly on China Southern or China Air. They all are cheap alternatives to the expensive Dragonair or Cathay Pacific, but they aren’t the most comfortable and the food usually consists of a cake and a bottle of water.
Recently, I tried Xiamen Airlines (pronounced Sherman) and was pleasantly surprised! [...]

MTR Breaks my Balls and Hospital
I’ve raved on about how the MTR over here is the best I’ve experienced, but my only slight annoyance is with the turnstiles. There’s a system over here where if you don’t have enough credit on your plastic MTR card, you can still travel and pay back the amount at a later date. [...]

Best Blogs in Asia – New Start-up
After taking a lot of “feedback” aboard, I’ve decided to revamp the site and allow disassociation from Phil’s Asia Blog Awards, so users can vote on which are the Best Blogs in Asia.
The site offer the following features:
- All voters are able to modify their votes.
- Voters can make a comment in a specific category [...]

Misunderstanding with the Asia Blog Awards
Well here’s the first bit of “Publicity about the new Asia Weblog Awards”. I tried to reply on Phil’s site, but seem to be blocked.

Asia Blog Awards – New Launch
Yep, well it’s been six months since Phil from Flying Chair hosted the last Asia Blog Awards so perhaps it’s a bit early to launch a new one. My feeling is that many new blogs have been created since December 2003, so perhaps they should be given their chance to compete with well-known regulars. [...]
Schoeni
Sad to hear that a few HK expats have been killed in The Philippines, particularly Manfred Schoeni owner of the “Schoeni” Art Galleries in Central.
On the weekend I was out with my girlfriend in Tsuen Wan, when a Chinese guy approached us and threatened to kill us as he didn’t approve of our mixed [...]
Mao Statue
Over here you can buy many Mao related items and I spotted this in a store.
Now, why would anyone want to buy a statue of Mao smoking a fag?
Secrets and a Bit of History
Whenever I tell my Chinese colleagues that I’m starting to learn how to cook Chinese food, they always end up asking me if I know the Chinese secret of how to cook rice. Hmm, I guess it seems an easy task – but no! The secret is to wash it many times then [...]
Strawberry Sweets and French May
Chinese are pretty healthy when it comes to food or snacks, so when approaching the checkout in a supermarket you aren’t really going to find rows of sweets but instead chewing gum or breath mints. So I was surprised to see a little gweillio girl ask her Nanny if she could have the Strawberry [...]
Help your Parents to Clean their Teeth
Just came across a bizarre advert, it started off ok with a little kid was having his tooth pulled by a bit of string. The voice over was saying something to the effect of “When I was little I didn’t look after my teeth”.
Then the scene cuts to 20 years later with an older [...]
