I was interested to read this BBC Article about hotels catering for the Sex Trade.
I’ve been to Zhuhai a few times and stayed in the hotels over there, and yes it’s true the hotels seem to be setup for sex. For example, in one hotel we stayed at there were stacks of condoms in the [...]

TV Programmes
I watched a Taiwan “real-life” programmme yesterday which secretly films partners who cheat and ended up shocked by the out-come. I’ve watched this weekly program a few times and although I don’t understand anything they are saying, I get a pretty good idea as to what’s going on (i.e. viewing the on screen punch-ups when [...]
Hello and Welcome
Actually this was my first Diary entry back in September 2003, so I thought I’d update it as I’ll be posting more often on the site.
The is my first entry into my Diary/Journal/Blog – what ever it’s called! My name’s Giles, another Brit living in Hong Kong – oh no!
I needed a change from my [...]

Racist Trainers?
Seems like a fuss is being kicked up by the Chinese-American community about an Adidas trainer which has created a supposedly stereotypical image of an Asian guy on the tonge of the latest shoe.
See http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/business/4895898.stm
Firstly, in what way does it offend Chinese? The designer never actually said the image was of an Asian person [...]
Wakey Wakey
Yep I’ve awoken and actually enjoyed the time off!
There’s a Kungfu film that everyone’s talking about at the moment – Kungfu Hustle, I’ll review it later on but since it’s already got the thumbs up from BWG then I know it’ll be good.
Came across a study that explains that Hong Kong Penises are the same [...]

HK TV and TV Adverts
The programmes that are on our screens over here range from 24, CSI to Queer Eye for The Straight Guy – which are pretty good. The thing I’m disappointed by is the Local News, more importantly the newscasters. I think TVB Pearl is the worst offender with their ugly gweillio presenters which makes [...]
Annual Typhoon
It’s Typhoon Season and I’ve just spent the best part of 1 hour in our local supermarket “stocking up”. Of course like others, I left buying the supplies at the last minute so all I could get my hands on were a few oranges, milk, water, mustard plant and some mushrooms – wow, wondering [...]

Chinese Secrets
After living in Hong Kong/China for a while, I’ve found out the following “secrets”:
- Chinese people usually select their English name around school age and from my experience, choosing the most old-fashioned names that are available
- The long stringy facial hair attached to moles that many people “sport” is considered lucky and is rarely removed. [...]
Strange HK Films
HK is helping to promote their film industry in places like Cannes and winning awards, however most of the films I’ve watched lately are terrible! Take a look at these examples:
- Public Toilet
- Magic Kitchen
- City of SARS
- Spy Dad
I think they are running out of decent scripts!
Seems like “Around the World in 80 [...]
