Drinking Culture

I forgot to mention that Shanghai has many “all you can eat” restaurants with the selection of food ranging from hairy crab to sushi. The Chef cooks your selection infront you on a huge hot plate and found it amazing to watch these masters at work.

Anyway, on the most recent visit I got a bit drunk (as the booze was free also) and kept on resting my hand on the hot plate! I put my saki on it once as well and it bubbled like a bugger! I think if someone wanted to have this type of restaurant in England, they’d go out of business very quickly! There’s a huge drinking culture in England and would imagine that people only go to the Restaurant for the beer and combined with a hot plate infront of you, it’s a disaster waiting to happen.

Also reminds me of a story from a mate in Leeds. Whenever he walks past the window of his local pub, the landlord automatically pours him a pint - regardless if he was going to go in or not. He then feels obligated to go in and put it on his tab (which I’m told is now a 4 figure number!).
