Nanning, China – Photos

Relating to my trip to the Nanning Food Festival article, here’s some pictures:

Outdoor Festival.

Chef cooking up some sticky rice with sweetcorn? Wrapped in a bamboo leaf – really nice.

Not sure what this was, but I ate it anyway.

One of the Most Dangerous Jobs in the World?

Probably. I was in China and our friend needed to get a window roof installed, so I took this photo of the guy installing it.

Please note that:

He’s wearing plimsols,
No ropes/wires attached to his body,
He’s got a live drill in one hand whilst hanging on with the other hand,
There’s a 50 foot drop below!

I can’t tell [...]

Nanning, China

I visited a city in China called Nanning, near Vietnam. Just to note, that if you think HK taxi’s are cheap (fare starts at 15 HKD for the first 5 mins – about £1.30) then Nanning beats that hands down with taxi’s starting at 7 RMB (about 60p).
Anyway, I’ve just come back from the Nanning Outdoor [...]

Hospital Visit

Back in 2004, whilst thinking of how to word this entry, I get the notion that if I lived in China full-time my blog would be so much more interesting. Hong Kong on the otherhand is very Westernised and there isn’t too much to write about except for the odd Comedy Shop Sign (i.e. Dick [...]

Chinese Wedding

In 2004, we went to a Chinese Wedding yesterday, great experience. There was about 200+ people in a banquet hall, most of which I think were family and we just ate and drank. We gave the married couple a red envelope which had 5 pounds from each of us, which should of covered the cost [...]

Tiananmen Remembered

Down in Victoria Park, it’s estimated 40,000+ people showed up to mark the 17th anniversary of the killings in Tiananmen Square last year.
I didn’t manage to show up this year, but went last year to see what was going on. I remembered it was quite peaceful and as most people were carrying lighted candles, it [...]

Cathay Pacific to take over Dragon Air?

I guess it was bound to happen, small fry in a big fish world.
By Cathay Pacific Airways closing a deal to take over smaller rival Dragon Air, it’ll benefit from access to routes between Hong Kong and mainland China.
Wondering if my Dragon Air points will be safe!

CNY and Mad Rush

Chinese New Year is approaching and everyone is making a mad dash for sweets, red pants and big tubs of cooking oil?! Anyway back to the subject of Chinese sweets and I’m sad to say whilst Chinese food is some of the best I’ve ever tasted….Chinese really suck at making sweets! They are usually bland [...]

Chinese Wedding

Take a look at the photos here.
Well the “big day” finally came and went! We had only 2 days to prepare and it actually went pretty smoothly, I guess it’s a factor of having no nerves as we didn’t have time to be stressed or to think about what was going to happen during the [...]
