Poo in McDonalds
Comments Off

Well the title basically explains it all. I, like some other Westerner’s are afraid to use the “Squat down and poo in the hole” routine in HK and China - I have my reasons. So, if I find I’m “caught short” whilst on my travels - I pop into the nearest Mc D’s as they […]

Wee Cream biscuit anyone?
Comments Off

Got given this tasty snack on the flight over from China to HK. I never tried it as the name put me off - what does creamy wee taste like?

The drink itself tasted quite bland, I couldn’t taste those “Chinese Prayer Beads”.

Xbox 360

I bought myself an Xbox 360 just after Christmas and must say it’s pretty good. I was going to get myself a Wii, but found they only stocked the Japanese version with no Wii Sports game so opted for the Xbox as the PS3 didn’t get rave reviews.I’ve also found that the games are cheaper over […]

Relating to my trip to the Nanning Food Festival article, here’s some pictures:

Outdoor Festival.

Chef cooking up some sticky rice with sweetcorn? Wrapped in a bamboo leaf - really nice.

Not sure what this was, but I ate it anyway.

Hong Kong Life

Read an article back in 2003 on the BBC Web site which explains pollution “Ups the risk of SARS”. When is HK going to cut the pollution levels in the city? HK’s not doing itself any favours - taxi’s are cheap, there’s a lack of pedestrian walkways in some places, new buildings are being created…
Maybe […]

One of the Most Dangerous Jobs in the World?
Comments Off

Probably. I was in China and our friend needed to get a window roof installed, so I took this photo of the guy installing it.

Please note that:

He’s wearing plimsols,
No ropes/wires attached to his body,
He’s got a live drill in one hand whilst hanging on with the other hand,
There’s a 50 foot drop below!

I can’t tell […]

Shotguns in McDonald’s and The Art Scene

Hong Kong is a pretty safe country from what I see and hear - low crime rates, safe to walk out at night etc., that combined with the assurance that there’s many Police Officer’s around the streets and most ‘Carry a Piece’.
However, what I consider pretty dangerous are the ‘Securicor’ type firms that collect/deliver money […]

Gweilo
Comments Off

Back in 2003, it was the first time I was called “Gweilo” (A Chinese “racist” term for a white person).  I was trying to get a bargain for a basketball for a knock down price when he said the “Gwelio” word. Doesn’t bother me, got myself a cheap basketball in the end!
I also spent half the day […]
